Gritty, swaggering, crazy soul singer Jamie Lidell is gearing up for the release of his new album Compass which will be released on May 20.  It is the follow-up to his quite successful 2008 release JIM and is being produced by Beck.

This past Friday, for the second time in six months, Kung Fu Necktie welcomed Pasadena native Damon Riddick (aka Dâm-Funk, the “ambassador of boogie funk” himself) for a Robotique guest spot he seemed more than willing to occupy.

Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Jay Electronica put it down for the Electric Factory crowd as the “Ecstatic Tour” rolled into town. While too many opening acts and the lack of a DJ didn’t necessarily help things, the headliners brought enough energy to make up for any faults.

He’s an actor, rapper, political activist and an all around interesting human being. Mos Def released his newest album The Ecstatic earlier this year and is now bringing it to the Electric Factory with “The Ecstatic Tour.” He’ll also be bringing along Black Landlord, Medina Green, Jay Electronica and his old Black Starr bandmate, Talib Kweli.

Sound good? Wanna get there? Phrequency.com has your hook up. Enter The Ecstatic Giveaway and win a pair of tickets to the show on Thursday night.

Phrequency and McJawn Magazine hosted an EPIC block party yesterday in South Philly.  Sunday, July 26th, 2009 will forever be remembered as the day these two websites collided and created a beautiful thing.  The party went off without a hitch, even the pending thunderstorms held out, and everyone got to enjoy the sounds of some of Philly's best acts.

Master of beautiful, handmade album art, ‘illadelphia’s own UNLESS will be spitting out rhymes and doing his thing tonight at the North Star Bar. The eccentric and artsy mc will stand tall on the elevated stage showing all those in attendance that there is more to hip-hop than flashy cars and voluptuous women.

If you build it, they will come. The man we know as Vanache took this obligatory movie quote to heart and over the past couple of months has created a party with DJ Phish like no other every Wednesday night. Superdope, located at O.N.E. at Rittenhouse Square is always the spot for all looking to start their weekend a little early. Other local favorites like tU pHAce and Elevator Fight have been known to make an appearance there.
