With Superdope officially over, we felt it was was only right to make our next Phreq of the Week the super talented Matthew Fishman-Dickerson aka DJ Phsh.We caught up with DJ Phsh over some sushi and took a stroll down memory lane (literally) visiting the spots that meant most to him over the past few years as his career took off.

Phrequency: How did you get started?
DJ Phsh- My friend Moses, who passed in 2009, was like the main person who helped me appreciate hip hop because, for real, I wasn’t really crazily into hip hop except for, you know, just being from West Philly. I would listen to a lot of (laughs) video game music when I was eleven and twelve and I was really listening to Y100. That was a good time for alternative rock in the late 90s early 2000s. So I was listening to stuff like that. When I would get around kids in my neighborhood I would know all of the Biggie songs and DMX songs that were out at the time.
Anyway we started off just making beats in his room. He was an emcee. I kind of rapped when I was thirteen (laughs) we had a song, I’m not going to name it cause it’s embarrassing….
Phrequency- Come on, tell us!
DJ Phsh: No! If my mom reads this she’s going to be like “Oh, really?” (laughs) It’s kind of vulgar. We were thirteen year olds, you know? We were just making songs!
