That's right, it was announced last week that at this year's upcoming Donaufestival in Austria, Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu will join forces to cover Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures from start to finish. The performance is scheduled for April 29th, the second day of the festival. There's no word yet if the public can expect an album version of this collaboration that will have JD fans foaming at the mouth, but let's hope there are a few bootleggers in the Donaufestival crowd.

In related news, Xiu Xiu is set to release Dear God, I Hate Myself on the 23rd of February, the band's first release since Caralee McElroy left to join Cold Cave. Xiu Xiu will play the First Unitarian Church here in Philly on April 13th, just before they head overseas to do that sure-to-be legendary live cover.
