There is some exciting news coming your way from two of Philadelphia's independent music organizations.
WXPN and Weathervane Music Association are teaming up for a special project that will support and foster independent musicians. The goal of the project is to provide production, marketing and distribution to capabilities to 15-20 artists over the next two years. It aims help musicians, including a portion from the Philadelphia region, who would otherwise not receive the same treatment from large-scale record companies.
A launch event is being held at the World Cafe Live on Tuesday, January 26th at 2 pm where more information will be revealed about the collaboration. The first three participating artists will be announced and speakers will include WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay, Weatervane Executive Director Bruce Warren and Daniel Smith of Danielson. There will also be a special performance from Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten.
But if you can't make it out to the World Cafe on a Tuesday afternoon, have no fear-- the whole even will be broadcast live on XPN.org.
This sounds like very good thing for the local music community!
