Punks everywhere are raising one eyebrow this morning thanks to some news that’s been spreading across the internet faster than The Flash can say his own name. Vampire Weekend has covered Rancid’s signature “Ruby Soho,” and not in one of those “let’s have fun and play this live” ways, but in a “hey, let’s make this sound like it could have been on our record” ways.
While it’s probably safe to assume that the two bands share a very small cross-section of fans, the age range of VW lends itself perfectly to the band doing this song. As a longtime Rancid fan, I can genuinely say that the cover is pretty cool. I can only imagine a Tim Armstrong-led version of that song from the Step Brothers soundtrack.
Check out the song, which was record in a BBC Radio 1 session with Zane Lowe, here.
