Twitter trends come and go pretty quickly. And on a day usually dominated by #followfriday (a weekly tradition where users list interesting people they’re following), a trend marked by #firstrecord has emerged.
It’s pretty self-explanatory. Users are tweeting the first record they bought. Some are differentiating between LPs and CDs, others are too young to have an actual “first record.” Many are also listing their first single or 7”. It’s not clear who started the trend, but it seems to have picked up speed sometime early this morning.
It’s a cool way to gauge how old people you follow are and learn a bit more about them, or mock them mercilessly for admitting their first album was Weird Al’s Dare to be Stupid (the worst we’ve actually seen? Lou Bega’s Mambo #5).
So far, it doesn’t look like many of Twitter celebrities or actual musicians have joined in on the trend, though user @AllotmentMate has already suggested #firstfilm and is attempting to “out trend” #firstrecord. (Who remembers their first movie?) Or user @Ben_Hawkes is asking for #firstcrush, #firstfight and #firsttimeikilledaman.
So let’s have it. Send your first record to @phrequencycom with the tag #firstrecord or post it in the comments.
