Streetwear and lifestyle site Uristocrat gave Philly hip hop heads a huge treat with their Summer School show at the TLA last night. Featuring Akilles, Asaad, Writtenhouse, Stalley, Dephonic and Kidz In The Hall, the show offered a excellent lineup, great performances a ton of cool surprises along the way.
Things kicked off promptly at 8:00 p.m. with a high-energy opening set from Akilles. Particularly impressive was the end of his set when he seemed to be channeling the spirit of James Brown.

The Jersey-born Philly transplant's unique style combines hip hop and reggae, and with support from his band and backup singers, set a great tone for the evening.

Philly native Asaad was up next, and provided the audience with a decent enough performance. The emcee, who is best known for his well received mixtapes Flowers and Wednesday, seemed somewhat nervous on stage accompanied by DJ Phsh. While his set wasn't without a few hiccups, there were definitely a few bright moments that made it worthwhile.
