Saturday night is the kick off event for what might quite possibly be the most exciting electronic performance series to come through Philadelphia in a long while.

DJ/producer King Britt and interactive artist Rucyl Mills have co-curated Saturn Never Sleeps, a combination of “audio visual micro-components into a thought altering world of sight and sound.”

Saturn Never Sleeps was conceptualized last July when King Britt used micro edits of Sun Ra during a performance at the Institute for Contemporary Art at University of Pennsylvania. King Britt and Rucyl then decided to build upon Sun Ra’s obsession with interstellar universal concepts and his metaphysical connection to the planet Saturn, while continuing to bring awareness to the art of improvisation in black music.

There could be no one more appropriate to kick off this celebration of experimental electronic sound than Flying Lotus (L.A.) and Shabazz Palaces (Seattle).

King Britt, Rucyl Mills, Damon Bennett and Tim Motzer will also perform. Expect dazzling visuals from Jason Senk and Peter Kirn.

Future performances will feature Ras G, Taylor McFerrin, Sarah White, Bora Yoon, Afta 1, and more.

Saturn Never Sleeps kicks off at the Painted Bride Art Center (230 Vine Street) on September 26th. 8pm. Tickets available here.
