Fairmount Art Center is now going to be opening up an extension of their already established location.  After seven years at the Fairmount, the organization will be opening the Queen Village Art Center. Just like the Fairmount Art Center, the Queen Village Art Center will offer classes, camps, workshops and after school programs for children. In addition, the center will also be offering a range of courses and workshops for adults to release some creative energy. The courses and workshops include drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, knitting, sewing, ceramics, mixed media, and decorative arts.

Owner Jill Markovitz says “With devastating budget cuts to the city’s art and music education, Queen Village Art Center will fill a need for creative learning in our community.” The location will provide a positive atmosphere for Philadelphia youth after school, on days off, during vacations, as well as in the summer months. Exciting news for local parents is that walking pick up will also be available from schools in the area. The new location will be at 514 Bainbridge Street, and the renovated two floor facility will boast over 3,000 sq ft. with four spacious studios, skylights, a kitchenette, and mixed use space that includes a library, gallery and lounge. An exact date has not been set for the opening, but will be some time in the fall of 2011.
