Like any good parents, we'll be throwing Phrequency a birthday party next week at the fabulous Kung Fu Necktie. We've got some great bands, some great DJs, a great MC and some great people coming through, so why not join the party? As a thank you for the support over the past year, the show is free. So come down and party with us, pin the tail on the donkey and all.

From 80's skate videos to festivals at the Jersey shore, McRad's Philly-centric brand of skate rock has seen it all. Hell, they even named their last record FDR.  Songs like “Weakness” from 1987’s Absence of Sanity still inspires kids to kickflip over some stairs. Fast and fun, with no chance of slowing down, McRad grinds along (bad pun intended) 26 years after forming.

It’s not every day that one band can sound like Talk Talk one second and Tom Petty the next. Dragonzord makes it happen. “Teen Plague” could be mistaken for a track from Laughing Stock thanks to its distant sound (literally, it sounds like it was recorded in a well) while “God Is A Baby” could find a place on alternative rock radio if the sonics were a little different. Yes, the music is kind of all over the place. It would be a hindrance if it wasn’t all so good.

With a name like Deep Possum, you’d probably be expecting some sort of southern good ol’ boy rock and roll. Well think again. If Tony Iommi grew up on lo-fi indie rock, he’d have a place in Deep Possum. Check out the song “Crawl Space” and tell me that doesn’t sound like an early Black Sabbath demo. Just try.

DJ PHSH has been tearing the city up for a while now even though he’s only 21. You might recognize him from his work with Tu Phace or from Superdope, but you definitely will keep hearing about him. He’ll be manning the wheels of steel all night, his specialty.

Dirty, grimey and beautifully artistic. While he raps “the earth broke as I took my first toke of herb smoke/at first glance my words dance, circle circumstance” over a heavy beat, emcee Unless flows like a river. It’s that smooth. Not only can he “spit hot fire” or some other cliché rap term, he’s an award winning visual artist too. Double trouble from the 215.
