The moment before any promising, up-and-coming young band takes the stage, I get nervous. I get nervous because I know that this is the moment of truth: where bands either live up to the hype fostered by an excellent album, or fall flat, like so many of their predecessors have before.
Luckily, Freelance Whales, the lush, dreamy subway-collective-turned-hot-indie-ticket—fall into the first category. The 5-piece mesmerized a sold-out Kung Fu Necktie crowd Friday night, with an exuberant and uplifting performance.
