Fleet Foxes played the Blue Comet stage late Friday afternoon, bringing their soothing mix of indie folk and sweeping Americana to the ears of APW.
Their performance began just before the evening’s storm set in, giving their act a heavy and foreboding energy. As the wind blew off of the Hudson and through the beards of the scraggly band, Singer Robin Pecknold jested, “I feel like a guild of wizards here to deliver an ominous warning.”
The Sub Pop folkies covered the majority of the hits from their self-titled LP, playing “English House,” “Ragged Wood,” and closing with “Blue Ridge Mountains,” all of which were met enthusiastically by a happily enthralled crowd.
The most powerful part of their set, however, came with the climax of “White Winter Hymnal,” which is arguably the band’s best single. The skies opened up and rained their first drops on the audience, who seemed to appreciate the coincidence.
