Whenever someone compares a band to someone I love, especially the great Big Star, of course I’ll at least try and listen. Thankfully I did with the Capitol Years, the local power-alternapop band who’s making their live return for the first time in a year tonight at Kung Fu Necktie before heading overseas for a UK run (which includes the Glastonbury Festival).

Across town, Sick of it All will be inciting mosh-riots at the Church, this is the exact opposite show full of power-pop and beautiful melodies. First is Brooklyn based Donny Hue & The Colors, then Adam Granduciel’s The War on Drugs, Detroit’s The High Strung and then the headliners. Talk about a pretty perfect show.

Get in from the haggard weather and cheer up a little bit with some great music.
