New Jersey based emcee Cymarshall Law has built up a very impressive resume. His skills on the mic have had him sharing stages with greats like Mos Def, Sean Price and Immortal Technique as well as rocking tracks with legends such as KRS-One. The U.K.-born rhymer has toured the world, hitting stages everywhere from Spain to Sweden, and from New York to L.A. here in the states.

That's right, it was announced last week that at this year's upcoming Donaufestival in Austria, Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu will join forces to cover Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures from start to finish. The performance is scheduled for April 29th, the second day of the festival. There's no word yet if the public can expect an album version of this collaboration that will have JD fans foaming at the mouth, but let's hope there are a few bootleggers in the Donaufestival crowd.

In related news, Xiu Xiu is set to release Dear God, I Hate Myself on the 23rd of February, the band's first release since Caralee McElroy left to join Cold Cave. Xiu Xiu will play the First Unitarian Church here in Philly on April 13th, just before they head overseas to do that sure-to-be legendary live cover.

Every so often something comes across my desk (or more realistically into my inbox) that goes from being a random band playing somewhere to an almost life-altering discovery. Ladies and gentlemen, that band is Tape. All of the nights I’ve spent bored playing with my Brian Eno’s Bloom iPhone app were spent dreaming of sounds like Tape makes, an ethereal combination of lush acoustic textures and out-there electronic creations.

Pantha du Prince is the moniker of the German techno-minimalist, Hendrick Weber and his album, Black Noise will be released tomorrow here in the States. If you're reading this from abroad, the UK to be exact, then you can pick it up today via Rough Trade Records.

Black Noise is already making waves thanks to the collaboration on "Stick To My Side" between Weber and Noah Lennox, better known as Panda Bear of Animal Collective fame. The track has got perfect groves and loops, especially great for snow days stuck inside dancing in your bedroom by yourself. The rest of Black Noise follows suit with sounds reminiscent of wind chimes rattling in the first Spring wind, also making it the perfect record to watch all this snow melt from your window. Check him out here.

Punks everywhere are raising one eyebrow this morning thanks to some news that’s been spreading across the internet faster than The Flash can say his own name. Vampire Weekend has covered Rancid’s signature “Ruby Soho,” and not in one of those “let’s have fun and play this live” ways, but in a “hey, let’s make this sound like it could have been on our record” ways.

As opposed to the second cousin of Vampire Weekend and MGMT I was expecting, Brooklyn’s Yeasayer have produced an album that sounds a lot like the members spent a weekend holed up in a cabin with a fat bag of peyote and every Mollie Ringwald movie ever produced. The scenes of classic 80’s movies stereotypes brought to mind by sophomore effort Odd Blood are so vivid that in lieu of a review, here’s a song-by-song summary of Yeasayer’s yet unproduced Say Anything sequel. For continuity’s sake, slight liberty has been taken with the actual order of songs.

1. "Ambling Amp": The camera pans over a high school lawn crowded with people, clearly divided by clique. We see the stoners, the Goths, the cheerleaders, and the nameless rabble of peons commonly referred to as “losers.” The camera zooms in on one loser as he’s given a particularly vicious noogie by a generic jock. We are thus introduced to our hero.
